Common Questions
The program spans four years full-time and is structured across distinct phases: Year 1 involves foundational coursework leading to the award of a Master of Pre-Doctoral Business Studies (MPDBS); Year 2 involves advanced specialised coursework and identification of a thesis topic, culminating in a research proposal presentation; and Years 3–4 are dedicated to full-time original research and completion of the doctoral thesis.
Upon successful completion of the first year of coursework, students are awarded a Master of Pre-Doctoral Business Studies (MPDBS). This year is designed to provide a rigorous foundation for conducting independent research, covering qualitative and quantitative research methods and key academic skills.
To apply, you must first self-assess your eligibility and then submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the School of Information Systems & Technology Management. Upon review, the school will issue an Invitation to Apply, after which you can proceed with a formal application. Details of what to include in the EOI are provided on the school's website.
The program primarily prepares graduates for careers in academia at premier research institutions worldwide. However, it also enables other career paths including consulting, government, industry, and the non-profit sector. There is significant demand in both the private and public sectors for people with deep knowledge and strong research and analytical skills, and nineteen of the largest ASX companies have PhD graduates on their senior executive teams.
Yes. Throughout the program, students have opportunities to develop their teaching portfolio. In the first year, students work as research assistants on faculty research projects, and there are also exciting opportunities throughout the program to interact with industry leaders.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
