Doctor of Philosophy (Mathematical Sciences)

Students are expected to produce significant and original research outcomes in one or more disciplinary areas of mathematical sciences, including applied mathematics, statistics, mathematical analysis, numerical and computational mathematics.

Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are successful applicants of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program are eligible for a tuition fee exemption under the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP): up to four years of full-time equivalent study for Doctoral or PhD programs.

Curtin requires all applicants to demonstrate proficiency in English. For this course, the IELTS Academic requirements are an overall band score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening components.

You will demonstrate expert understanding of theoretical knowledge in Mathematical Sciences, think critically by investigating, analysing, and synthesising complex information, communicate and present a coherent and sustained argument, present a complex investigation of originality for external examination against international standards, understand global and cultural issues related to your original research, and design, implement, analyse, theorise, and communicate research that makes a significant and original contribution to knowledge and/or professional practice.

The course is offered at Curtin Perth campus, delivered on campus, with intakes available in Research Term 1 and Research Term 2 for both 2026 and 2027.
