Doctor of Philosophy - Medicine

Graduates will be able to demonstrate expert understanding of theoretical knowledge and reflect critically on that knowledge and their practice; think critically and evaluate existing knowledge; apply expert creative, technical and professional skills; present a complex investigation of originality for external examination against international standards; communicate complex research concepts to the general community, peers and the national and international research community; and design, implement, analyse, theorise and communicate research that makes a significant and original contribution to knowledge and/or professional practice.

The course normally requires a minimum enrolment period of two years and a maximum of four years equivalent full-time study. Candidates may enrol either full-time or part-time. Part-time students intending to undertake research studies should contact the Director of Graduate Research, Curtin Medical School.

Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are successful applicants of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program are eligible for a tuition fee exemption under the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP), covering up to four years of full-time equivalent study for Doctoral or PhD programs.

Curtin requires all applicants to demonstrate proficiency in English. For this course, the IELTS Academic requirement is a minimum overall band score of 6.5, with no individual band (Writing, Speaking, Reading, Listening) below 6.5. English proficiency may also be demonstrated using other approved tests and qualifications.

The Doctor of Philosophy - Medicine is offered at Curtin Perth on campus. Intake is available in Research Term 1 and Research Term 2 for both 2026 and 2027.
