Candidates undertake research in a public health related topic under the supervision of academic staff at both Deakin University and the University of Copenhagen, spending at least six months at each institution to gain exposure to international health systems and research.
Research areas supported include Public Health and Health Promotion, Health Economics and Program Evaluation, Public Health Nutrition, Health Service Management, Medicine and Allied Health.
The PhD takes up to four years of full-time study (or four to eight years of part-time candidature). A full-time student is expected to commit 36 hours a week to their PhD program, while part-time students commit half that amount. Students are also entitled to 20 working days annual leave from candidature on approval by their Principal Supervisor.
Yes, Career Pathway Placements (internships) with industry partners are offered as an elective to all domestic and international HDR students. The timing of a proposed placement should be discussed with the supervisory team and approved by the School HDR Coordinator.
To meet the English language proficiency requirements, you will need to demonstrate at least one of the following: a bachelor degree from a recognised English-speaking country, an IELTS overall score of 7.0 (with no band score less than 6.5) or equivalent, or other evidence of English language proficiency.
