The main part of your work will be in the form of a thesis written under the guidance of a supervisor and associate supervisor(s). At least two-thirds of the study program must involve research, and although some coursework units may be required, the thesis is the primary component. The thesis must be a substantial original contribution to knowledge or understanding of any field.
Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are successful applicants of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program are eligible for a tuition fee exemption under the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP): up to four years of full-time equivalent study for Doctoral or PhD programs.
Curtin requires all applicants to demonstrate proficiency in English. For this course, the IELTS Academic requirements are: Writing 6.5, Speaking 6.5, Reading 6.5, Listening 6.5, and an Overall band score of 6.5. Other equivalent English proficiency tests and qualifications may also be accepted.
You will develop cognitive skills to demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and reflect critically on its application; cognitive, technical and creative skills to investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information; skills to generate and evaluate complex ideas at an abstract level; skills to design, use and evaluate research and research methods; and communication and technical skills to present a coherent argument and disseminate research concepts, plans and results to peers and the general community.
Entry to this course is competitive with limited places available. Offers are made in four distinct rounds throughout the year. Applicants are ranked and selected based on published entry requirements and their entire academic record. Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee selection, and applicants with outstanding results will only be considered for an offer upon submission of those results.
