Doctor of Philosophy (Public Health) Research

The main part of your work will be in the form of a thesis written under the guidance of a supervisor and associate supervisor(s). At least two-thirds of the study program must involve research, and your thesis must be a substantial original contribution to knowledge, demonstrating your capacity to conceive, design and complete independent research.

Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are successful applicants of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program are eligible for a tuition fee exemption under the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP), covering up to four years of full-time equivalent study for Doctoral or PhD programs.

Curtin requires all applicants to demonstrate proficiency in English. For this course, the IELTS Academic requirement is an overall band score of 6.5, with minimum scores of 6.5 in each of the four components: Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening.

You will learn to demonstrate expert understanding of theoretical knowledge and reflect critically on that knowledge and practice, think critically and generate original knowledge, apply expert creative and professional skills, present a complex investigation for external examination against international standards, communicate complex research concepts to the general community and the international research community, and design, implement, analyse, theorise and communicate research that makes a significant and original contribution to knowledge and/or professional practice.
