Common Questions
No. The MCP/PhD double degree is only available to domestic applicants, which includes Australian or New Zealand citizens, Australian Permanent resident visa holders, Australian Permanent humanitarian visa holders, and Pacific Engagement Visa holders.
Applicants must submit two separate admission applications — one for the MCP (MACLIPSY1000) and one for the MCP/PhD (RPPHDSCI4000). The PhD application for MCP/PhD is different to the standalone PhD application (RPPHDSCI6000), so applicants should not submit an application for the standalone PhD. Applications for 2026 admission open Friday 1 August 2025 and close 9am, Monday 27 October 2025.
The MCP/PhD double degree takes five years to complete. In the first year, students enrol full time in MCP coursework. In the second and third years, they complete MCP coursework and commence PhD research. In the fourth and fifth years, students are enrolled full time in the PhD. Upon completion of all requirements for both degrees, students graduate with a MCP/PhD award.
MCP/PhD applicants must provide two academic references via the Psychology Reference System. Applicants must register with the Psychology Reference System to nominate their two referees online. Referees are then prompted to complete an online reference, which applicants must share with the University of Sydney via the Psychology Reference System. Applicants who do not correctly provide completed references by the application closing date will not be considered.
Yes. The University of Sydney provides hundreds of scholarships, awards and prizes to students of all backgrounds and levels. Relevant options include the Tanya Sackville Memorial Scholarship, postgraduate coursework scholarships, and postgraduate research scholarships. Separate deadlines apply for scholarships.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
