Common Questions
Applicants must have completed within the last 10 years: an APAC-accredited four-year sequence of study in psychology with at least an upper second class Honours (H2A) or equivalent overall mark; OR an APAC-accredited Master's degree in Psychology; OR overseas qualifications assessed by the Australian Psychological Society as equivalent to either of the above. Demonstrated possession of an appropriate level of knowledge and skill related to research is also required.
Demonstrable counselling experience (e.g., Lifeline, Care Ring, or similar) is preferable but not essential for entry into the Doctor of Psychology (Clinical and Forensic Psychology).
Students undertaking accreditation placements are required to obtain a police check, working with children check (WWCC), NDIS screening check, immunisation form, hand hygiene certificate, and N95 Mask Fit testing prior to placement. Some of these may be required by the placement organisation and may incur additional cost. Students must also be eligible for registration as a Provisional Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
Applicants meeting the minimum entry criteria will be shortlisted and interviewed by a selection panel, and an order-of-merit for entry will be prepared taking into account (a) academic record, (b) demonstrated knowledge and skills related to research, (c) previous work experience and training, and (d) academic and professional referees' reports. Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee an offer of a place.
Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency with either an IELTS overall band of 7.0 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 7.0, or Swinburne's English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with overall 75% and all skills 75% or above. English language tests must be undertaken within two years of application, and formal study in English for two years at AQF7 or above must be undertaken within five years of application. Prospective students should also refer to AHPRA's website for details of English language skills standards for registration as a practitioner in the Psychology profession.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
