First and second year classes are held primarily at the Parkville campus, third year is held at the Werribee campus, and fourth year is completely lecture-free, with students immersing themselves in veterinary practice at the Werribee campus-based Greencross Veterinary Hospital at the University of Melbourne and on external placements.
Yes. Graduates can register in each state and territory in Australia and New Zealand, as well as in the UK. They are also eligible to sit the licensing exam required to practice in North America, as the degree is recognised by the Australian, UK, and North American accreditation bodies.
Students can prepare for their chosen career path through species-based tracking in their final year. Three tracks are available: Equine, Production Animal, and Small Animal.
Students gain hands-on experience at Australasia's most modern veterinary teaching facilities, including the purpose-built Greencross Veterinary Hospital at the Werribee campus, specialist clinical skills, surgical, and animal anatomy laboratories, dedicated study and social spaces, and a state-of-the-art teaching hospital. There are also opportunities for interstate and overseas placements.
DVM students enjoy dedicated support from experienced academic advisors and peers in the Melbourne Veterinary School. Support includes tailored course and work-integrated learning guides, the Veterinary Students Society of Victoria for networking and wellbeing activities, Stop 1 support services for student administration and counselling, fees and scholarship information, visa information, and wellbeing and accommodation guidance.
