EAP 4A – English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate (Part A)
First unit of EAP 4, for students wishing to study academic English or gain entry into foundation studies or higher education diplomas at VU.
EAP 4B – English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate (Part B)
Second unit of EAP 4, for students wishing to study academic English or gain entry into foundation studies or higher education diplomas at VU.
EAP 5A – University Preparation Undergraduate (Part A)
For students who wish to enrol in a VU TAFE certificate or diploma course.
EAP 5B – University Preparation Undergraduate (Part B)
For students who want to enrol in a VU undergraduate course.
EAP 6 – University Preparation Postgraduate
For students with an advanced level of English who wish to enrol in a VU postgraduate course.
Common Questions
Completing EAP 4 allows you to move to EAP 5 or enter a TAFE diploma. Completing EAP 5 allows you to progress to EAP 6 or apply to study a bachelor degree, as EAP 5 meets the English language admission requirements for a bachelor degree. Completing EAP 6 meets the English language admission requirements for postgraduate degrees, allowing entry into a Masters or PhD course (minimum pass for Masters; 70% or higher for PhD).
The 2025 course fee is AU$500 per week, and the 2026 course fee is AU$530 per week. There is also a one-time enrolment fee of AU$200. All prices are in Australian dollars.
The average class size is 15 students with a maximum of 18 students. Students study 20 hours per week, 4 hours per day, with usually 2 hours of morning classes and 2 hours of afternoon classes. On most days, additional support classes are also provided during lunch breaks.
EAP study areas include academic culture, academic writing (including research and referencing skills), academic reading, academic listening, and academic speaking (including tutorial and oral presentation skills). Learning activities include class discussions and role plays, presentations and debates, essay and report writing, videos and audio learning, workshops and tutorials, quizzes and tests, journal/diary writing, and computer assisted learning.
No. EAP 4 (Certificate and Diploma Preparation) is available for all intakes. EAP 5 (University Preparation Undergraduate) is available at intakes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9, subject to demand. EAP 6 (University Preparation Postgraduate) is available at intakes 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9, subject to demand.
