About This Course

Kaplan Business School offers Academic English programs for those students who need to improve their English proficiency before commencing their degree course at KBS. Our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course is designed to develop students with the essential language and study skills required to successfully navigate academic tasks in an academic environment. The course focuses on listening, speaking, reading and writing while developing academic and critical thinking skills. Upon successful completion of the EAP course, students can enter directly into one of our degree courses. KBS is a member of English Australia.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

All students applying to study at Kaplan Business School must satisfy the entry requirements for the desired course.
Applicants must complete a KTE (Kaplan Test of English) test, or provide a Kaplan approved English test.
Provide certified copies of your passport.
Provide certified copies of high school certificates and transcripts (if applicable).
Provide English proficiency documents e.g. IELTS test certificate or equivalent (if applicable).
Provide degree completion certificate and transcripts (if applicable).
Provide work experience details (if applicable).
Documents must be certified by a Kaplan Business School representative or authorised education agent, a Public Notary or a Justice of the Peace in Australia.

Upon successful completion of the EAP course, students can enter directly into one of KBS's degree courses. What levels of English for Academic Purposes does KBS offer?

KBS offers either EAP1 (10 weeks) at Intermediate level, EAP1&2 (20 weeks) combining both levels, or EAP2 (10 weeks) at Higher Intermediate level, depending on the student's current English proficiency.

What skills will I develop in the EAP course?

The EAP course develops listening skills (including note-taking strategies for academic lectures), reading skills (using various techniques to comprehend academic texts), speaking skills (oral presentations and participation in informal and formal discussions), writing skills (constructing paragraphs, academic essays and reports), and critical thinking and study skills such as referencing, group work strategies, and time management.

What are the start dates for the EAP course?

EAP1 and EAP1&2 start in February, June, and September. EAP2 starts in April, August, and December.

How do I apply for the English for Academic Purposes course?

To apply, you will need to complete a KTE (Kaplan Test of English) test with KBS or provide a Kaplan approved English test. You then download and complete the application form, provide certified copies of required documents (passport, certificates, transcripts, English proficiency documents, etc.), wait for an acceptance notification, accept your Offer of Admission and complete payment via the online Applicant Portal, and finally receive your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) to apply for an Australian student visa.

EAP1 is available in Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. EAP2 is available in Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.
