English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

The EAP course consists of four proficiency levels — Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 — each lasting 10 weeks, for a total course duration of 40 weeks.

Each level has a specific IELTS entry requirement: Level 1 requires an overall IELTS score of 4.5, Level 2 requires 5.0, Level 3 requires 5.5, and Level 4 requires 6.0. These scores are indicative and mapped across with Harbourside Institute of Australia's placement test results.

Students will study academic reading, writing, speaking, listening, note-taking, summary writing, essay writing, and presentation skills. There are both in-class and out-of-class activities (including library visits for research) explicitly designed to achieve academic language skills.

There are eight formative assessments and four summative assessments for each level. Students will be given both formative and summative assessments throughout their studies.

Upon completing each level, students exit at the following CEFR levels: Level 1 exits at B1+, Level 2 at B2, Level 3 at B2+, and Level 4 at C1, with corresponding IELTS exit scores of 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, and 6.5 respectively.
