About This Course

Our general English courses are designed for people who want to improve fluency, accuracy and confidence speaking in English. Our courses will also improve English language skills which are essential for travel, work purposes or simply for personal interest. Our general courses develop all aspects of the English language including speaking, pronunciation, listening, grammar, reading and writing. The focus is on improving your basic communication needs in everyday aspects of the English language. During your English course you will be expected to participate as much as possible, and work individually, in pairs and in groups as well as take part in whole class activities. This course is for all international students with non-English speaking background or English is not their first language and wish to improve their English language skills.

What English levels are offered in the General English course?

The course offers five assessment levels: Elementary (10 weeks), Pre Intermediate (20 weeks), Intermediate (30 weeks), Upper Intermediate (40 weeks), and Advanced (50 weeks).

How many hours per week will I study?

Students undertake 20 hours of class per week plus 5 hours per week of self-study, for a total of 25 hours per week.

What topics and skills does the General English course focus on?

The course focuses on improving speaking skills and developing accurate pronunciation, understanding grammar and learning when and how to use it, listening and reading for the main idea and detailed information, building vocabulary and slang, using body language correctly, general writing development, understanding the culture of English-speaking countries, understanding native and non-native English speakers, and conversational English.

How will I be assessed during the course?

Assessment is conducted through formative assessments (weekly tests) and summative assessments (a mid-course level test and an end of course level test).

What is the maximum class size and how flexible is enrolment?

The maximum class size is 18 students, classes feature mixed nationalities, and students can enrol from 1 week to 52 weeks with classes starting any Monday.
