The General English course covers levels from Beginner to Advanced. Students are initially assessed using the Institute's English Placement Test, which evaluates reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar, and are then placed at the appropriate level.
Each level of the General English course runs for 12 study weeks. New intakes begin every Monday, except on public holidays.
Students are required to attend 20 hours of face-to-face scheduled classes per week, with at least an 80% attendance rate during study terms. Students must also achieve satisfactory course progress through formative tasks, mini tests, and weekly homework tasks. Summative tests are undertaken during each 4-week period to check academic progress.

After passing this course, students may be able to pathway into an academic English course such as IELTS or undertake studies at a vocational or higher education level, such as an RTO, TAFE or university.
