About This Course

Competency in English is a critical first step for both academic study and everyday life. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced learner, Ruby Institute's English program is designed to help you improve your language skills and achieve your personal and academic goals. Our experienced and highly qualified teachers use a student-centered approach to teaching that focuses on developing your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in real-life contexts. We believe that learning English is not only about improving your language skills, but also about gaining a deeper understanding of different cultures and perspectives. That's why we provide a multicultural and inclusive learning environment where students from diverse backgrounds can learn and grow together. Students will be initially assessed to determine their language proficiency and will be placed at the appropriate level. They will then progress in accordance with further assessments required by the course curriculum.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Ruby Institute will assess which level students should start at and recommend duration based on their scores for reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar on the Institute's English Placement Test.
Alternatively, students can progress or enter based on a passing grade in the immediately preceding General English level.
Students will have Overseas Student Health Cover as part of their visa requirements.
Applicants must be over the age of 18.
Students are required to attend 20 hours face to face scheduled classes per week, with at least 80% attendance rate, during study terms.
Students must achieve satisfactory course progress through formative tasks and mini tests undertaken in class, as well as through homework tasks that are to be completed each week.
Summative tests undertaken during each 4-week period will check the academic progress of students.

What levels of English does the General English course cover?

Each level of the General English course runs for 12 study weeks. New intakes begin every Monday, except on public holidays.
