About This Course

The Graduate Certificate in Business comprises postgraduate courses in economics, marketing, organisational behaviour and accounting. Covering the cornerstone areas of modern business, this practical business course equips participants with the skills to advance their business careers and reach decision-making roles in their chosen industry or profession. The course is designed for graduates of non-business disciplines and also for experienced professionals who did not undertake an undergraduate degree — including those from technical disciplines such as science, health and engineering who wish to move into business decision-making, non-technical and general management roles. It can also serve as an entry pathway to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Flexible.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

A Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA
The equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent
At least two years professional experience in a relevant occupation; OR
Significant work experience including at least 5 years with a material level of responsibility (for those without a bachelor's degree)
Proof of English language competency: minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0
A current curriculum vitae (CV) outlining professional work experience
Two referee names and contact details
Original proof of citizenship (passport, birth certificate, or Australian Citizenship certificate)
Original academic transcripts (unless previously from UWA)

Can the Graduate Certificate in Business lead to an MBA at UWA?

Yes. The four units completed in the Graduate Certificate in Business can be credited towards the UWA MBA Flexible program, which requires a total of twelve units. This means Graduate Certificate graduates need to complete only a further eight units to finish the MBA.

Is the Graduate Certificate in Business available fully online?

Yes. The course can be studied fully online, as well as on-campus at UWA's Crawley campus in Perth. It is also available part time, with a range of units taught after hours, and the option to learn via intensive units.

When can I start the Graduate Certificate in Business?

The course has three intake periods per year: Trimester 1, Trimester 2, and Trimester 3. For 2026, application close dates are 5 January (T1), 13 April (T2), and 27 July (T3). T2 and T3 2026 applications are currently open.

Who is the Graduate Certificate in Business designed for?
