Requirements

Rule A: Completed ONE or more of the following qualifications (or overseas equivalent) from a recognised tertiary institution: a three or four-year pre-service teaching qualification (AQF Level 7); OR a Bachelor qualification (AQF Level 7) and a one or two-year pre-service teaching qualification (AQF Level 8 or 9); OR an Australian Children's Education & Care Authority (ACECQA) qualification (AQF Level 7, 8 or 9).
Rule B: Completed a Bachelor qualification (AQF Level 7 or overseas equivalent) in a relevant discipline (including but not limited to: English, Languages, or Linguistics) AND a minimum of 1 year of full-time (or part-time equivalent) relevant professional experience, e.g. an adult educator in ELICOS, TAFE, or university. (Admits to TESOL specialisation only.)
Rule C: Completed a relevant qualification in Digital Learning of at least a Diploma level (AQF Level 5) AND a minimum of five years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) relevant professional experience; OR a non-relevant qualification of at least a Diploma level (AQF Level 5) AND a minimum of seven years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) relevant professional experience. (Admits to Digital Learning specialisation only.)
Rule D: Completed a four-year pre-service teaching qualification (AQF Level 7) or a Bachelor qualification (AQF Level 7) and a one or two-year pre-service teaching qualification (AQF Level 8 or 9) (or overseas equivalents) AND a minimum of three years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) professional experience as a middle leader, head teacher, or other senior leadership role in a school context.
English language requirements must also be met.
Mandatory intensive schools on campus may be a requirement of some units in this course.
Advanced Standing: maximum of 12 credit points based on units completed at UNE or another university within the last ten years; Advanced Standing based on professional experience is not applicable for this course.

What specialisations are available in the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies?

There are five specialisations available, each of which will appear on your testamur: Digital Learning, Indigenous Australian Education, School Leadership, Special and Inclusive Education, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). You may also choose a generalist pathway to mix-and-match units according to your interests.

How long does it take to complete the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies?

The course can be completed in as little as 0.5 years (six months) full-time, or up to 2 years part-time, consisting of 4 units totalling 24 credit points.

Can I study the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies online?

Yes, the course is available fully online across all three trimesters (February, June, and October). It is also available on campus at Armidale in Trimester 1 and Trimester 2. Sydney Campus does not offer this course.

Are there any restrictions on which specialisations I can choose based on my entry pathway?

Yes. Students admitted under Rule B may only undertake the TESOL specialisation, and students admitted under Rule C may only undertake the Digital Learning specialisation. Additionally, the TESOL specialisation is only available when commencing in Trimester 1 on a part-time basis.

What documents do I need to provide to support my application?

All applicants must provide a certified academic transcript of their completed qualification/s. If applying under Rules C or D, a Statement of Service from your employer/s on company letterhead is also required. International applicants must additionally provide proof of identity and citizenship, and evidence of English Language Requirements being satisfied (e.g. a copy of a UNE-approved English test completed within the last two years).
