The Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science offers a wide range of specialisations including Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Environmental Engineering, Food Process Engineering, Geoenergy & Geostorage Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology, Mechanical and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Photovoltaics and Solar Energy, Project Management, Renewable Energy, Robotics, Space Systems Engineering, Structural Engineering, Sustainable Systems, Systems and Control, Telecommunications, Transport Engineering, Water Engineering - Catchments to Coasts, and Water, Wastewater and Water Engineering.
The standard program takes 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time. However, students with relevant previous study may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (Credit Transfer), which could allow them to complete the Graduate Certificate in under a year. An accelerated 0.7 year program is also available for students with a bachelor's degree or AQF Level 7 equivalent in a cognate discipline.
The Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science is made up of 48 Units of Credit, meaning students will study eight courses. Depending on specialisation and previous studies or professional experience, students may choose from Foundation Disciplinary Courses, Disciplinary Courses or Advanced Disciplinary Courses; Engineering and Technical Management Courses; and Electives in their area of interest. Some specialisations require core courses to ensure foundational knowledge before customising the certificate.
For domestic students, Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) are available, with a 2026 indicative CSP first year fee of $10,000 and a total fee to complete the degree of $10,000. For domestic full-fee paying students, the 2026 indicative first year fee is $45,000 with a total fee to complete of $45,000. For international students, the 2026 indicative first year full fee is $61,000 and the indicative full fee to complete the degree is $62,000. Fees are subject to annual review and may vary.
Yes. The Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science is the first step on a pathway to the Master of Engineering Science. The program also articulates to the Graduate Diploma of Engineering Science, with full credit given for courses completed in the Graduate Certificate.
