About This Course

In this course you will gain knowledge of the fundamental concepts and major issues relevant to global environmental and climate crises, and build skills to create positive change at a local, national and global levels. This course comprises three core units and one optional unit focusing on the understanding, reflection and investigation of key sustainability issues. There is a strong emphasis on professional practice to strengthen your career opportunities and professional development. A major component of your studies will be engaging with climate emergency issues and applying your learnings to develop strategic responses. You will become familiar with real-world practices through lectures and workshops delivered by consultants from industry and government. You will also learn practical skills in social research, analysis and broad stakeholder engagement. At the Legacy Living Laboratory (L3) – a state-of-the-art data visualisation space and research facility – you will expand your knowledge and build capabilities to contribute solutions to biodiversity loss, extreme climatic events and other issues affecting communities globally.

General Requirements

Applicants for a Master Degree (Coursework) are required to meet university academic and English language entry standards.
Subject to the duration of the course applicants usually require a Bachelor Degree or equivalent (and may require relevant work experience), Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma.
Applicants without a bachelor degree or equivalent require a minimum of five years' relevant experience.
Students may transfer to this course after successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Environment and Climate Emergency.
English language requirements (IELTS Academic): Writing 6, Speaking 6, Reading 6, Listening 6, Overall band score 6.5

Can I study this course part-time?

Yes, the course caters for both full-time and part-time students. The standard duration is 6 months full-time, or equivalent part-time study.

Is midyear intake available for this course?

Midyear intake is not available for this course. Please refer to the available intakes listed for Semester 1 and Semester 2 in 2026 and 2027.

What are the fees for this course?

The 2026 domestic fee-paying postgraduate cost is $12,235, based on a first-year full-time study load of 100 credits. The total cost will depend on your course options (i.e. units selected and time taken to complete). Domestic fee-paying students may be eligible for FEE-HELP assistance.

Can I progress to a higher qualification after completing this Graduate Certificate?

Yes. When you successfully complete the Graduate Certificate in Environment and Climate Emergency, you may transfer to the graduate diploma and then subsequently enrol in the master degree.
