The Graduate Certificate in Food Science and Technology is one semester full-time or equivalent part-time study, making it 6 months full-time. The course is worth 100 credits, which is approximately four units.
To be eligible for this course, you need a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution in science, engineering, nutrition, environmental health, home economics, agriculture or other appropriate discipline. You must also demonstrate English proficiency, for example through IELTS Academic with an overall band score of 6.0 and a minimum of 6.0 in each component (Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening).
The domestic fee-paying postgraduate tuition fee for 2026 is $14,657, based on a first-year full-time study load of 100 credits. Fees are indicative only, and the total cost will depend on your course options, including units selected and time taken to complete. Domestic fee-paying students may be eligible for FEE-HELP assistance.
In this course you will learn to apply the principles and practices of food sciences and technology to the production of safe and healthy food, apply logical and rational processes to critically analyse issues relevant to food, access and evaluate information from a wide range of resources, recognise international standards and practices within the discipline, value cultural diversity and recognise the impact of culture on food preferences and usage, and engage in self-directed learning while exhibiting professional behaviour when working independently and collaboratively.
Applications are currently open for multiple intakes. For Semester 2, 2026, the application close date is 5 July 2026. For Semester 1, 2027, applications close 28 January 2027. For Semester 2, 2027, applications open 1 March 2027 and close 1 July 2027. The course is offered on campus at Curtin Perth.
