Programming Concepts
Introduces the basic principles of object-oriented programming using a standard programming language and a learning environment, covering topics including basic programming constructs, loops and files, lists and user-defined functions, classes and objects, and packages and libraries.
Common Questions
The unit covers six modules: Introduction to Programming, Basic Programming Constructs, Loops and Files, Lists and User-defined Functions, Introduction to Classes and Objects, and Introduction to Packages and Libraries.
The unit is assessed through a Portfolio (30%), a Quiz (10%), and a Project (60%) across all campuses and online delivery.
COMP5002 is available in Term 1 at Gold Coast, Melbourne, Online, Perth, and Sydney for both domestic and international students. It is also available at China - Guangxi UST (international only, Term 1) and Papua New Guinea - IBSU Port Moresby (international only, Term 1).
On completion of this unit, students should be able to use development environments to build object-oriented programs, analyse the behaviours of programs that use programming constructs, apply recognised code refactoring best practices to improve performance and maintainability, and design and implement classes and methods that promote modularity, reusability, and extensibility in object-oriented programs.
