Graduate Certificate in Literature and Creative Writing (Exit Only)

This is an exit program only. Applicants apply to 1831 Master of Arts in Literature and Creative Writing and exit with the Graduate Certificate award. Offered as a Grad Certificate/Grad Diploma qualification of 40 credit points, it is normally completed in 0.5 years full-time and 1 year part-time. Students do not apply for this award directly: admission is to the parent program, and the qualification is conferred on those who leave that program early having completed the required credit points. It is administered within Western Sydney University's Humanities and Communication Arts academic area. Subjects include Reading and Writing Australia, Creative Non-Fiction, Gender and Genre, Writing and Genre and Cultural Podcasting. Graduates are expected to be able to describe and explain the methods of research practice pertaining to literary studies and creative writing; demonstrate enhanced theoretical knowledge that informs critical perspectives in an area of literary studies and/or creative writing; design and execute a substantial research-based project with a high level of autonomy and accountability; and demonstrate and critically reflect on advanced and integrated knowledge of literary criticism, literary theory and/or creative writing methods.
