Eligibility
Domestic students:
A full four-year Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree recognised under the Washington Accord, or equivalent, with a minimum of 12 weeks of full-time professional experience in a maritime or engineering field is required. Evidence of the professional experience must be certified by a recognised authority of the respective country.
International students:
Admission to most postgraduate coursework courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects, and meet English language requirements to be eligible for an offer.
English Language Requirements
For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided. See the English Language Requirements page for more information.

Course Specific Requirements
To be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Maritime Engineering, you must have a full four-year Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree recognised under the Washington Accord, or equivalent, with a minimum of 12 weeks of full-time professional experience in a maritime or engineering field. Evidence of the professional experience must be certified by a recognised authority of the respective country.
Alternative entry pathways:
Applicants holding a Bachelor of Engineering (3-year) or Bachelor of Technology, with at least 1 year of relevant engineering experience*, are eligible for entry. A technical competency statement or structured RPL portfolio reviewed by course coordinator, along with a current CV, must be submitted.
Professional Engineers holding an Advanced Diploma or higher (AQF Level 6+) in a maritime or engineering field, with a minimum of 5 years of senior maritime operations experience*, may apply. Applicants must submit either a technical competency statement or a structured Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) portfolio for course coordinator review, accompanied by a current CV.
Applicants with an overseas engineering degree of any accreditation status, and at least 1 year of relevant engineering experience*, are eligible. An Engineers Australia skills assessment or equivalent documentation, together with a current CV, is required upon application.
Applicants holding Graduate membership (GradIEAust) or above, with a minimum of two years of maritime or marine systems experience*, are eligible for entry. Current Engineers Australia membership evidence and a CV must be submitted.
*Evidence of the work experience must be certified by a recognised authority of the respective country.
