Graduate Certificate in Music (Performance)

Postgraduate programs at AMPA aim to assist advanced professionals who, having achieved professional careers in the public arena, can derive further knowledge from a music related academic and research environment. The degree is also relevant for those seeking an active teaching career either in the private or government sector as specialists in the performing arts. Sharing their expertise with the next generation of music students, graduates will enter the teaching profession in either the tertiary environment or private training sector in parallel with their work in the field. Graduates will also be equipped to undertake further studies at Doctoral level. All programs merge high-level performance and practical training while providing increased breadth of knowledge and unparalleled industry insight. Students can personalise their degree based around their individual specialisations. Unlike many institutions in Australia, AMPA remains focused on individual, one-to-one learning. This means that music students are entitled to receive a 60 minute lesson per week as part of their Principal Study unit, along with an additional 30 minute lesson as part of Second Study. The Semester model for postgraduate students allows an extended teaching period of 18 weeks. The option of taking a Second Study is particularly unique to AMPA and a valuable opportunity for students with more than one skill eg. piano/conducting or saxophone/composition.
