About This Course

The Graduate Certificate in Public Health is a flexible program that provides a broad introduction to public health. It enables graduates to confidently work with communities to contribute to effective and sustainable public health practices, both nationally and internationally. You'll gain an insight into the challenges involved in improving the health of our vulnerable communities and the range of career opportunities available in public health. During the degree, you will study two core subjects in public health, as well as two electives from within the public health subject offerings. You will engage in innovative and cutting-edge learning experiences that provide strong work-ready skills, as well as a keen analytic social lens to address issues of global health significance. The Graduate Certificate in Public Health also provides an ideal pathway to the Master of Public Health for applicants who do not meet the direct admission requirements for that course.

Requirements

A recognised bachelor's degree.
Students who have a relevant diploma and/or significant professional experience (a minimum of two years of professional experience in a related field) will also be considered.
If English is not your first language, you must meet the University's English Language Requirements, which differ by course. Accepted international test results include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET for specific health-related courses.
Alternatively, the English language requirement can be fulfilled by completing an English course at UOW College.
Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications: If you have completed or partially completed studies at an approved university or tertiary institution, you may be eligible for entry to UOW. You'll need to provide academic records, and your course must be at least one-sixth complete. Non-English documents must include an official English translation.

Are there fee-subsidised places available for this course?

Yes. In 2026, domestic students may be eligible for either a Commonwealth supported place (CSP) or a UOW-subsidised fee reduction of up to 75% off the listed fees. The indicative full-fee paying course fee is $12,940 (2026).

When can I apply and what are the application deadlines?

For Autumn 2026, the application deadline is 9 December 2025 for international students and 31 December 2025 for domestic (direct) students. For Spring 2026, the deadline is 5 May 2026 for international students and 31 May 2026 for domestic (direct) students.

Can I get credit for prior learning or professional experience?

Yes. If you have completed prior studies or relevant professional experience, you can request course credit or subject exemptions to reduce the duration and cost of your program. UOW values lifelong learning and recognizes various types of prior learning, regardless of how or where it was obtained.
