Yes, students new to teaching are recommended to start from the Graduate Certificate level. However, it should be noted that this course is not an initial teacher education program for school teachers — you must already be a qualified school teacher to become a TESOL/literacy specialist in primary or secondary schools.
Yes, all courses include supervised professional practice placements in schools or colleges, which UTS helps students locate through its strong industry networks.
Students must choose one specialist stream from three options: the Adult Literacy and Numeracy stream, the EAL/D and Literacy in Schools stream, or the English for Academic Purposes stream. Each stream is worth 12 Credit Points and is compulsory.
Yes, you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in all UTS TESOL courses if you are a qualified teacher. Those who are already teaching typically gain RPL for the earlier subjects and are advised to consider the Graduate Diploma or Master courses.
