The institution does not tolerate any unwanted sexual attention, harassment, stalking or assault. Behaviour that is intimidating, abusive, disrespectful or threatening is not acceptable. Students found in breach may face consequences including fines, suspension and expulsion, while staff or affiliates may face disciplinary action or termination of employment.
Yes. Sexual assault is a crime, and the institution is bound under the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW) to make a report to the Police in many cases of serious offences, including sexual assault. Students found in breach of the Student Academic and Non-Academic Procedure may also face severe institutional consequences.
Consent is defined as a free, voluntary and informed agreement between people to participate in a sexual act. It must be free and voluntary, specific and informed, affirmative and communicated, ongoing and mutual, and must reflect capacity. Consent cannot be given by any person under the age of 16 years in most Australian states, or under 17 years in South Australia and Tasmania.
