Yes. This degree is specifically designed as a pathway for students who have previously completed at least one advanced research methods subject and are seeking additional research experience and qualifications to meet the entry requirements of a PhD or research Master's degree at JCU. Upon successful completion, you may be eligible to apply to a Higher Degree by Research program at JCU.

If you have not previously studied an advanced research methods subject, the Graduate Diploma of Research Methods can provide you with the additional understanding of methodology required for Higher Degree by Research courses at JCU.

The estimated annual Commonwealth Supported Fee is $AUD2,370.00, and the estimated annual tuition fee is $AUD13,007.00 (plus Student Services and Amenities Fee). Fee deferral and scholarships are available if eligible. Fees displayed are for 2026 and are subject to change in following years.

Yes, the course is available online as well as on-campus at JCU's Townsville and Cairns campuses. It can be studied full-time over 6 months or part-time over 1 year, with intakes commencing in February and July.

It is preferred that you nominate a Research Advisor at the time of application; however, it is not mandatory at the time of submitting your application. You should define your research topic and seek the agreement of an experienced JCU advisor before applying, and a list of available advisors is provided by JCU to help you find one within your research area.
