To be permitted to enrol in this course, students must have completed a Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) or higher.
The Graduate Certificate of TESOL consists of 4 core subjects studied over 2 trimesters, with 3 subjects studied in the first trimester and 1 subject (the TESOL Practicum) in the second trimester.
Yes. Graduates of the Graduate Certificate of TESOL may apply for admission into KOI's Graduate Diploma of TESOL or Master of Arts (TESOL) with credit given for studies completed within the Graduate Certificate of TESOL. Graduates are also eligible to apply for admission into further postgraduate qualifications in Australia and overseas.
Yes. The course includes a supervised practicum (TSL718 TESOL Practicum), which is studied in the second trimester and has TSL700 Language Teaching Methodologies as a pre-requisite. King's Own Institute works closely with other language teaching providers in Sydney to organise practicum placements.
Graduates will be able to demonstrate knowledge of theories of second language acquisition and language teaching relevant to TESOL; demonstrate skills in critical thinking to identify, analyse and evaluate current theories and developments relevant to TESOL; communicate complex knowledge to a range of audiences from diverse cultures and linguistic backgrounds; demonstrate skills in the application of knowledge and problem-solving and the ability to think rigorously and independently; and demonstrate skills and exercise judgement in planning lessons and delivering them in a TESOL classroom.
