Applicants who hold a three-year bachelor's degree with an accredited sequence of psychology study — including a Graduate Diploma in Psychology — from another university are welcome to apply, provided their degree is APAC-accredited. Grades will be assessed on a case-by-case basis if they are not on the same scale as UWA grades. Note that up to 5% of Psychology Honours program places may be made to non-UWA psychology course graduates.

The entry rank is calculated using a formula that includes all Level 2 and Level 3 psychology unit marks. The average of all Level 3 psychology unit marks is weighted twice as heavily as the average of all Level 2 marks. Yes, part-time study is available, but students must complete the course within two years. It is recommended that part-time students complete the thesis units (PSYC4421 and PSYC4422) in the second year. In the first year, part-time students complete the four coursework units (Psychological Assessment, Research Methods and Analysis in Psychology II, Psychological Science in the Modern World, and Psychological Interventions), and the two research project units in the second year. Note that student visa holders are required to study full time.

Supervisor preferences are nominated after offers are issued, not at the time of application. Applicants who receive an offer will complete an online supervisor preference form as part of accepting their offer. Supervisors are assigned based on stated preferences, weighted by academic record where there are ties — meaning higher-performing students are more likely to be assigned their preferred supervisor. The School will inform students of their supervisor one to two weeks before semester commences, and this assignment is final.

No. Deferral is not available for the Psychology Honours program. You should apply only for the year you want to start. However, if you need to take time off before applying, note that you must have completed your Level 3 Psychology units within the seven years prior to applying, so most applicants can take several years off before applying.
