No prior technical knowledge is required. The course provides an introduction to the role of geology in the resource industry and is designed for those whose work is associated with mining and petroleum who would benefit from understanding how mineral and energy deposits are found and evaluated.
The course is available online; however, the units 'Field Geology and Maps' and 'Mining and Exploration Geology' each include a 5-day face-to-face classroom and field delivery in Kalgoorlie, in addition to online activities. Students are required to attend these two five-day field classes in Kalgoorlie.
There is one intake per year, in Semester 1 (February). Mid-year entry is not available because first semester units provide essential background knowledge and skills for all subsequent units. For 2027, applications are open and close on 28 January 2027.
The indicative domestic fee-paying postgraduate fee for 2026 is $17,406, based on a first-year full-time study load of 100 credits. The total cost will depend on your course options, including units selected and time taken to complete. Domestic fee-paying students may be eligible for FEE-HELP assistance.
Part-time and external study is only available to Australian resident students and international students studying outside Australia. International students must also demonstrate English proficiency, with a minimum IELTS Academic overall band score of 6.5 (with no component below 6).
