Calling on extensive links to industry, you will undertake a collaborative media project that allows you to develop and create your own original production project with input from peers, teachers, and professional practicitioners. You also have the option of undertaking an industry placement wherein you will be immersed in a real-world media environment, be exposed to industry best practice, and begin building your professional network. You will learn in RMIT's state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated media precinct, allowing you to build confidence with industry-standard equipment before you pursue professional practice. Developing practical experience and contextual knowledge throughout your studies, you will strengthen your skills in research, creativity, teamwork and efficiency, allowing you to plan, produce and deliver your own media projects and pursue your goals as the consumate media professional.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Applicants must meet RMIT's minimum English language requirements for postgraduate coursework degrees.
VCE: A study score of at least 30 in Units 3 & 4 English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 25 in Units 3 & 4 English, Literature or English Language.
Australian Interstate Year 12 or New Zealand NCEA Level 3: Achieve a study score in an English course deemed equivalent to those listed above.
Equivalent Overseas Year 12: Completed an equivalent English course with the required study scores.
STAT: Achieve an overall score of at least 156 or a verbal reasoning sub-score of 155.
Post-Secondary study: Satisfactory completion of 2 undergraduate level courses equivalent to at least 24 RMIT University credit points; or satisfactory completion of an AQF accredited award at certificate IV or above (or equivalent).
Professional work experience: Demonstrated at least 2 years of professional work experience in an occupation requiring English language proficiency, with a supporting statement from employer on official letterhead confirming English is the language of business.
English proficiency tests (standard postgraduate entry): IELTS (Academic) 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL iBT overall score 79; PTE (A) 58 (no communication band less than 50); C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency 176 with no less than 169 in any component.

What are the English language requirements for entry into the Graduate Diploma in Media?

Is IELTS General accepted for admission into the Graduate Diploma in Media at RMIT?

No, RMIT does not accept IELTS (General) for admission into its university programs. Only IELTS (Academic) or IELTS (Academic) One Skill Retake are accepted. Additionally, RMIT does not accept scores from 'at-home' or 'online' testing.

How long are English language test scores valid for entry to RMIT postgraduate programs?

English language proficiency test scores are valid for 2 years from the test date. Tests that fall outside this validity period will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Can I meet RMIT's English language requirements through post-secondary study rather than a language test?

Yes, domestic applicants can meet the minimum English language requirements for postgraduate coursework through satisfactory completion of 2 undergraduate level courses equivalent to at least 24 RMIT University credit points, or through satisfactory completion of an AQF accredited award at certificate IV or above (or equivalent).
