On completion of this diploma you'll gain accreditation as a Coal Mine Ventilation Officer in NSW and QLD. The accredited programs offered by UNSW for the appointment of Statutory Coal Mine Ventilation Officers in both NSW and QLD can be taken as options in the Diploma.
As this is a professional development course, it is essential that the student has access to a mine site with the support of industry. It is preferable that the student is working at a mine site. Assessments are geared to practical evaluation of mine ventilation systems.
If you do not hold a Mining Engineering degree, you may qualify for entry with a bachelor degree in a discipline cognate to Mining Engineering (or equivalent) plus two years relevant working experience in Mining, or a minimum of 4 years relevant working experience in mining PLUS one of the following: deputy's certificate, undermanager's certificate, mine manager's certificate or mine surveyor's certificate. Students who can demonstrate equivalent prior learning may also be approved an alternative entry pathway by written permission of the Program Authority.
For domestic students, the 2026 indicative first year full fee is $45,000 and the indicative full fee to complete the degree is $45,000. For international students, the 2026 indicative first year fee is $61,000 and the indicative fee to complete the degree is $62,000. Fees are subject to annual review by the University and may vary accordingly.
