This course will help you enter, and develop a detailed knowledge of the mining industry. It will enable you to become knowledgeable in specialist skills, particularly mining engineering methods. It prepares you for operational and management positions, in both open-pit and underground work.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Applicants require a bachelor degree in applied geology or civil/geological/geotechnical engineering from a recognised institution.
Some industrial experience is preferred.
Candidates with a recognised bachelor degree in surveying or mechanical/metallurgical engineering OR a qualification equivalent to AQF Associate Degree in applied geology or civil, geological or geotechnical engineering, plus relevant industrial experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Postgraduate Course Coordinator.
Candidates who have completed a mining-related undergraduate degree or who have minerals industry experience may be considered for mid-year entry.
English requirements: IELTS Academic with an overall band score of 6, with minimum scores of 6 in Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening.

Students will study 200 credits of core units encompassing the key aspects of mining engineering skills and knowledge, across the breadth of the industry, including mineral exploration, mine planning, design, engineering, optimisation and management of mining operations.

Yes, the course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study, and the course can also be studied externally.

The domestic fee-paying postgraduate fee for 2026 is $35,486, based on a first-year full-time study load of 200 credits. The total cost will depend on your course options, including units selected and time taken to complete. Domestic fee-paying students may be eligible for FEE-HELP assistance.
