Students complete a total of 55 days of professional experience across two placements: WPL6115 First Professional Practice (25 days) and WPL6215 Second Professional Practice (30 days). These placements take place in diverse settings including public, metropolitan, rural, regional and remote schools.
Students completing the Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Primary) will meet the qualification requirements for Provisional Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA). However, this course has approval specifically for the purpose of teacher registration in Western Australia, and completion does not automatically confer eligibility for teacher registration in other Australian states or territories.
All Pre-Service Teachers 18 years of age and over are required to have a current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) and a current Working with Children Check, or the equivalent clearance issued by the relevant State authority before commencing their period of Professional Experience.
Yes, the course is available part-time, and it is equivalent to 1 year full-time. For students who enter mid year, the course can be completed in 12 months full-time through a FastTrack delivery, which requires completing one unit in summer school in order to complete all units within the timeframe.
The Commonwealth supported estimated 1st year indicative fee is AUD $4,750. This is provided as a guide only, based on a typical enrolment of students undertaking the first year of the course. At ECU, you pay for the individual units you enrol in, not an overall course fee, so the total cost will vary depending on what units you choose. ECU fees are adjusted annually.
