Graduate Diploma in Translation Studies - exit only

This program is an exit point for students undertaking 1775 Graduate Diploma in Interpreting and 1777 Master of Interpreting and Translation who do not complete subject LANG 7001 Accreditation Studies (2017 and prior) or subject LANG 7030 Preparation for NAATI Certification (PG) (from 2018). Offered as a Grad Certificate/Grad Diploma qualification of 80 credit points, it is normally completed in 1 year full-time and 2 years part-time. Students do not apply for this award directly: admission is to the parent program, and the qualification is conferred on those who leave that program early having completed the required credit points. It is administered within Western Sydney University's Humanities and Communication Arts academic area. Subjects include Literary Translation, Introduction to Interpreting PG, Audiovisual Translation: Subtitling and Captioning, Community and Social Services Translation (PG) and Specialised Translation (PG). Graduates are expected to be able to exercise judgement and critical, reflective, creative, technical, and basic professional skills to make informed decisions when facing new challenges while on an interpreting and/or translation assignment; and critically evaluate the knowledge derived from published research in translation and interpreting studies, and use appropriate judgement in the interpretation and application of that research to professional practice.
