To complete the Graduate Diploma of Biotechnology, you must pass 8 credit points, which includes 7 credit points of core units and 1 credit point of a level 7 postgraduate open elective unit, plus three compulsory zero-credit-point units.

Yes. Upon completion of the Graduate Diploma of Biotechnology, you could use the credit points you've completed to pursue further study, including the Master of Biotechnology (Professional) (S713). There is also an alternate exit option available: the Graduate Certificate of Bioinformatics (S513).
You will need to meet at least one of the following academic criteria: completion of a bachelor degree or higher in a related discipline (such as biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, or equivalent), OR completion of a bachelor degree in any discipline and two years' of relevant work experience (or part-time equivalent) in areas such as biomedicine, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, or environmental research. You must also meet English language proficiency requirements, which include an IELTS overall score of 6.5 with no band score less than 6.0, or a bachelor degree from a recognised English-speaking country, or equivalent evidence.
The course is available at Waurn Ponds (Geelong) with two intake options: Trimester 1 starting in March and Trimester 2 starting in July. Direct applications to Deakin for Trimester 2 2026 close on 21 June 2026.
