Common Questions
The Diploma of Commerce is a full year of study equivalent to the first year of the Bachelor of Business. Upon completion, it provides credit and guaranteed entry into further study in the Bachelor of Business.
For domestic students in a Commonwealth Supported Place, the annual student contribution amount for 2026 is between AU$4,738 and AU$17,399 depending on the band of courses enrolled in, plus a maximum Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) of AU$373. For international students, the total fee is AU$36,480 for 2026. Eligible domestic students may defer payment via HECS-HELP and SA-HELP loan schemes.
Throughout your study, you will engage in work-integrated-learning (WIL) projects undertaken with RMIT partners to allow firsthand industry experience. You will also have the chance to apply and refine professional skills in a workplace or simulated business environment, interact with industry and the community, attend industry events hosted by RMIT, connect with a professional through RMIT Mentoring, and gain access to the RMIT Trading Facility which provides a live market data feed from Thomson Reuters and financial analysis tools used by professionals at the world's leading banks and investment firms.
The diploma is taught in smaller groups of typically 25–30 students, creating a closer relationship with teachers who personally support and guide students. Ongoing assessment throughout the semester includes examinations, essays, reports, oral presentations, group projects, research projects and practical assignments.
There are guaranteed pathway packages available, including: Commerce (Diploma)/Business (Degree) (DP020PATH1), Commerce (Diploma)/Accounting (Degree) (DP020PATH2), and Commerce (Diploma)/Accounting/Business (Double degree) (DP020PATH3). These pathways provide guaranteed entry into the relevant bachelor degree upon successful completion of the diploma.
