About This Course

The Graduate Diploma of Counterterrorism Leadership provides advanced technical knowledge of theories and practices in a range of real-world scenarios. Graduates will be equipped with skills to prepare them for further study and will be able to demonstrate an ability to apply a body of knowledge across a range of contexts. Graduates will also have developed skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication at a postgraduate level. Graduates of the Graduate Diploma of Counterterrorism Leadership may find employment in leadership and management roles in a relevant field, such as: counterterrorism agencies, professional organisations, government services, and educational institutions, as well as other contexts that require research skills and critical thinking. The structure of this course is based on the first year of GLI's Master of Counterterrorism Leadership, so it allows flexibility for students who may wish to start with a shorter postgraduate course before committing to a Masters program or for students who need to exit the Masters earlier than intended.

Requirements

Domestic Students:

Completion of an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or equivalent) in any discipline
At least two years relevant counterterrorism experience in a managerial or leadership role
Applicants must submit a copy of their CV with a cover letter outlining how they meet the above criteria, or equivalent
Applicants are also required to provide a recent police check (not more than 90 days old)

International Students:

Completion of an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or equivalent) in any discipline
At least two years relevant counterterrorism experience in a managerial or leadership role
International student applicants whose entry qualifications were obtained in an institution where English is not the language of instruction normally require an International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) of 6.5, with a score of not less than 6.0 in any of the four skill areas, or equivalent
International students must hold a valid student visa
Applicants must submit a copy of their CV with a cover letter outlining how they meet the above criteria, or equivalent
Applicants are also required to provide a recent police check (not more than 90 days old)

Special or Alternative Admission Arrangements:

Special admission pathways are also open for educationally disadvantaged applicants and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
These applicants will be assessed on a case-by-case basis with Recognition of Prior Learning, professional accreditations and the provision of a portfolio of work for entry to micro credential and single units

Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

Credit for previous learning may be obtained through the processes of articulation, credit transfer and recognition of prior learning or a combination of these processes
Students who have successfully completed accredited study or courses at recognised tertiary institutions may apply for a Transfer of Credit
A certified copy of an official transcript detailing studies undertaken must be submitted with the Credit Transfer and RPL Application Form
RPL from life and work experience will also be considered upon request

What are the credit point requirements and course structure for this diploma?

The Graduate Diploma of Counterterrorism Leadership includes two semesters with a total of 80 credit points: 60 credit points of core units and 20 credit points of electives. Semester 1 covers Globalisation and Counterterrorism, IT Decision Making and Governance, People Culture and Leadership, and Strategic Resources Allocation. Semester 2 covers Violent Extremism and Hate Crimes, Community Engagement and Counterterrorism, Emerging Trends in Terrorism Studies, and one elective unit.
