Early Childhood Perspectives Past and Present
Introduces students to early childhood education within the context of a contemporary and changing world, engaging with theoretical perspectives that have contributed to the history and philosophy of early childhood education.
Early Childhood Practice and Pedagogy
Introduces students to the various discourses that inform teachers' knowledge and pedagogical practice and provides the opportunity to critically engage with models of pedagogy, including the Early Years Learning Framework.
Curriculum Studies in Early Childhood
Provides students with an opportunity to understand the various discourses that inform teachers' knowledge and pedagogical practice, as well as conceptual knowledge of holistic approaches to teaching in the Early Childhood context.
Early Childhood Development, Wellbeing, and Inclusivity
Introduces child development theories and approaches to child well-being, protection and inclusivity, examining major theories and current issues in child development, well-being, and inclusivity and applying them to educational practice.
Building Partnerships with Families and Communities
Provides students with an opportunity to understand the potential for children's learning, development, and care when teachers develop partnerships with families and communities.
Early Childhood Leadership, Management and Research
Focuses on the theory, practice and representation of leadership and management in the field of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC), both nationally and internationally.
Professional Experience 1 (20 days 3 to 5 years)
First professional experience focusing on understanding of the early childhood profession through developing collaboration and networking skills within a host organisation, with a birth to 35 months focus of a minimum 10 days, followed by a 3 to 5 years focus of a minimum 20 days.
Professional Experience 2 (40 days including 15 days in a 0–35-month setting)
Second professional experience where teacher education students develop a professional portfolio based on their placement, demonstrating knowledge and skills of teaching and learning, and pedagogical leadership, requiring 30 days within an Early Childhood setting or school.

The course incorporates 60 days of professional experience in early childhood education settings. This is split across two subjects: Professional Experience 1 (EXP431) covers a minimum of 10 days in a birth to 35 months setting and 20 days in a 3 to 5 years setting, and Professional Experience 2 (EXP432) covers 30 days in an Early Childhood setting or school.
Admission into the course is via an undergraduate degree in any discipline, including a teaching qualification.
The course costs $2,550 per subject and FEE-HELP is available for eligible students.
