To complete the Graduate Diploma of Finance, you must pass 8 credit points, consisting of 4 credit points of core units and 4 credit points of open elective units. You are also required to complete the 0-credit-point compulsory module Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin (DAI001) in your first study period. Most units are equal to one credit point, and as a full-time student you will study four credit points per trimester across two trimesters per year.
The estimated tuition fee for a full-fee paying place is $34,200 for one year full-time. This is provided as a guide only and represents the typical tuition fees for students completing the course within the same year they started. The cost may vary depending on the units you choose, your study load, the length of your course, and any approved Recognition of Prior Learning. You may also be eligible for a HELP loan (FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP) depending on your course type, fee place, and citizenship or residency status.
Yes. As a graduate, you may choose to articulate into the Master of Finance (M750). Additionally, if you wish to exit early, a Graduate Certificate of Finance (M530) is available as an alternate exit option.
The course is available at Burwood (Melbourne) and Online. It is offered in Trimester 1 (starting March) and Trimester 2 (starting July) at both locations. Direct applications to Deakin for Trimester 2 2026 close on 21 June 2026.
No, you do not need a business degree. The course is suitable for applicants with a non-business undergraduate degree or those who are keen to acquire a professional qualification in finance. Entry requirements include completion of a bachelor degree in any discipline, or at least three years' relevant work experience in business or a related field. Students without a prior business background are recommended to take Economics for Managers (MPE781) and Accounts, Accountability and Governance (MAA702) in their first trimester.
