About This Course

The course is about more than just applying business and management skills in a health context. It explores what best practice looks like in the complex world of health services management. Everything you learn – and the way you learn – prepares you to navigate the exact challenges faced by health and human services professionals today. During your Graduate Diploma of Health Management you will complete eight credit points of study comprising 3 core units and 5 elective units. You will have the opportunity to select from a range of elective units on topics like resource allocation and priority setting, healthcare operations, human resource management and more. You'll develop core skills that allow you to make evidence-based decisions that improve the quality of health services. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Diploma of Health Management you will have the option of enhancing your skills by continuing on to the Master of Health Management and will have already completed half of the credit points from the masters course.

Requirements
  • Completion of a bachelor degree or higher
  • At least two years' relevant work experience (or part-time equivalent)
  • Examples of relevant work experience include, but are not limited to: Health support worker/assistant, aged care and disability services and support workers, allied health science professional
  • A combination of qualifications and experience may be deemed equivalent to minimum academic requirements

English Language Proficiency (at least one of the following):

  • Bachelor degree from a recognised English-speaking country
  • IELTS overall score of 6.5 (with no band score less than 6.0) in each component of test
  • Other evidence of English language proficiency

  • Selection is based on a holistic consideration of your academic merit, work experience, likelihood of success, availability of places, participation requirements, regulatory requirements, and individual circumstances
  • Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission

Can I continue to a Master's degree after completing the Graduate Diploma of Health Management?

Yes. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Diploma of Health Management, you will have the option of enhancing your skills by continuing on to the Master of Health Management (H756) and will have already completed half of the credit points from the masters course.

How much does the Graduate Diploma of Health Management cost?

The estimated tuition fee for a full-fee paying place is $30,600 for 1 year full-time. You may be eligible for a Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) loan — including FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP — depending on your course, type of fee place, and your citizenship or residency status. Deakin alumni may also be eligible for a 10% discount on enrolment fees, applied per unit.

What are the entry requirements for the Graduate Diploma of Health Management?

Where and when can I start the Graduate Diploma of Health Management?

The course is available at Burwood (Melbourne) campus and online. There are two intake periods: Trimester 1 starting in March and Trimester 2 starting in July. Direct applications to Deakin for Trimester 2 2026 close on 21 June 2026.
