Foundation unit covering fundamental knowledge in the use of information and IT in business, including computing hardware, software, networking, and business information systems (BIS) strategy.
Object-Oriented Programming
Foundation unit covering core concepts of object-oriented programming including abstraction, encapsulation, polymorphism, exception handling, and data structures, with implementation in Java or Python.
Database Systems
Foundation unit covering database models, systems and languages, including data modelling, SQL, entity relationship diagrams, normalisation, and data security and privacy.
IT Networking and Communication
Foundation unit covering fundamental knowledge in data communications and network technology, including TCP/IP, LANs, WANs, internet technologies, and network security solutions.
IT Project Management

Common Questions
The tuition fees for the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology and Systems are $18,000 in total for both domestic and international students studying online, based on the 2026 academic year fees. This works out to $2,250 per unit of 6 credit points, with 8 units required to complete the qualification.
If a student admitted into the GDITS course discontinues their studies before completing all requirements, they may be awarded a Graduate Certificate of Information Technology and Systems upon completion of 24 credit points, provided they have met the specific criteria for that qualification.
Students in the GDITS course can expect to undertake a range of assessment tasks including applied projects, industry-based case studies, quizzes and tests, technical and research reports, presentations, practical and laboratory tasks, reflective analyses, and individual/team projects. These are designed to evaluate critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities, advanced technical competencies, leadership and communication skills, and the capacity to apply IT and systems knowledge to complex, real-world challenges.
To be eligible for admission, you need to meet at least one of the following academic entry requirements: you have completed a bachelor's degree (AQF level 7) from a recognised institution; you hold an Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree qualification (AQF Level 6) and have at least three years of relevant work experience; or you have at least five years of relevant professional experience in a related field.
The 2026 intake dates for the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology and Systems at VIT are 02 March 2026, 25 May 2026, 03 August 2026, 07 September 2026, and 07 December 2026.
