About This Course

As an international lawyer working in the ASEAN+6 region, you will uphold the principles of cross-border practice. You will do this by protecting the interests of clients in complex agreements and disputes. A challenging and rewarding area of practice, you will need to navigate the legal systems and nuances of different cultures. ASEAN refers to the Association of South East Asian Nations, which founded the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015. The cross-border subjects focus on practice within the 10-nation ASEAN group, and the 6 nations that comprise the ASEAN+6 regional Free Trade Area. A Graduate Diploma of Applied Law (ASEAN+6 Legal Practice) provides the flexibility to balance work and life while learning to negotiate draft cross-border contracts, conduct business in the way of mergers and acquisitions, uphold intellectual property across the region, and more.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

You must hold a recognised law degree (LLB, JD, or equivalent) to enrol in a Postgraduate Program.
You will need to submit one of the following academic records: Official academic transcript (LLB, JD, Dip Law), Graduation certificate, Admission certificate, or Current practising certificate.
If applying for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), submit any relevant postgraduate certificates or qualifications.
If your name has changed, provide certified proof of name change.
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required by the Australian Government for all students (except offshore international students).
If you are from a non-English speaking country or your previous studies were in a language other than English, you will need to demonstrate your English skills in accordance with the IELTS standard: level 8 (writing), 7 (listening), 7.5 (speaking), 7 (reading), and 7.5 overall.

How many subjects do I need to complete for the Graduate Diploma of Applied Law (ASEAN+6 Legal Practice)?

To complete this award, you must choose any 4 ILP (International Legal Practice) subjects from the available ASEAN+6 subject offerings.

What are the fees for this course and am I eligible for FEE-HELP?

The fee per subject in 2026 is $4,150 (no GST applies). Fees are reviewed annually and may vary during your enrolment. If you are an Australian citizen, NZ citizen, or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, you may be able to defer payment through the Australian Government StudyAssist FEE-HELP scheme.

What types of assessments will I need to complete?

Your assessments may vary from course to course. However, the most common assessments include Oral Assessments, Written Assessments, Short writing activities, and Reflection activities.

Can I receive credit for prior learning towards this qualification?

Yes. If you have undertaken a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice with The College of Law within the last ten years, you may apply to receive up to two elective subjects of unspecified credit. If you have undertaken a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice with another provider within the last ten years, you may apply to receive one elective subject of unspecified credit. If you have undertaken other postgraduate study, such as an LLM or Graduate Diploma of Law, whether you have completed the award or not, you may be eligible to receive credit for that study.
