About This Course

The Graduate Diploma of Police Leadership introduces students to a broad range of police leadership technical and theoretical concepts. Graduates will be equipped with skills to prepare them for further study and will be able to demonstrate an ability to apply a body of knowledge across a range of real-world contexts. Graduates will also have developed skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication at a postgraduate level. Graduates of the Graduate Diploma of Police Leadership may find employment in a range of professional and educational contexts, policing organisations, police leadership, and cybercrime organisations. This course also allows flexibility for students who may wish to start with a shorter postgraduate course before committing to a Masters program or for students who need to exit the Masters earlier than intended, due to unforeseen reasons.

Requirements

Domestic Students:

Completion of an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or equivalent) in any discipline
At least two years relevant policing experience in a managerial or leadership role
Applicants must submit a copy of their CV with a cover letter outlining how they meet the above criteria, or equivalent
Applicants are also required to provide a recent police check (not more than 90 days old)

International Students:

Completion of an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or equivalent) in any discipline
At least two years relevant policing experience in a managerial or leadership role
International student applicants whose entry qualifications were obtained in an institution where English is not the language of instruction normally require an International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) of 6.5, with a score of not less than 6.0 in any of the four skill areas, or equivalent
International students must hold a valid student visa
Applicants must submit a copy of their CV with a cover letter outlining how they meet the above criteria, or equivalent
Applicants are also required to provide a recent police check (not more than 90 days old)

Special or Alternative Admission Arrangements:

Special admission pathways are also open for educationally disadvantaged applicants and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
These applicants will be assessed on a case-by-case basis with Recognition of Prior Learning, professional accreditations and the provision of a portfolio of work for entry to micro credential and single units
Credit for previous learning may be obtained through the processes of articulation, credit transfer and recognition of prior learning or a combination of these processes
RPL from life and work experience will also be considered upon request

How many credit points are required to complete the Graduate Diploma of Police Leadership?

The Graduate Diploma of Police Leadership includes four semesters with a total of 80 credit points: 60 credit points of core units and 20 credit points of electives.

What are the fees for domestic and international students?

For domestic students, the tuition per unit is AUD $2,500, with total course fees of AUD $20,000, a one-time non-refundable application fee of AUD $500, and AUD $10,000 paid up front. For international students, the tuition per unit is AUD $3,125, with total tuition fees of AUD $25,000, a non-refundable deposit of AUD $500, and AUD $12,500 paid up front prior to issue of Confirmation of Enrolment.

Do I need policing experience to be admitted into this course?

Yes, both domestic and international applicants are required to have at least two years relevant policing experience in a managerial or leadership role, in addition to completing an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or equivalent) in any discipline.

Can I receive credit for prior learning or previous study?

Yes, credit for previous learning may be obtained through the processes of articulation, credit transfer and recognition of prior learning or a combination of these processes. Students who have successfully completed accredited study or courses at recognised tertiary institutions may apply for a Transfer of Credit, and RPL from life and work experience will also be considered upon request.
