Common Questions
To be eligible for entry, applicants need an AQF level 7 bachelor degree in a relative health discipline, or equivalent. Applicants must also submit supporting documents including current AHPRA Registration (if applicable), a Degree Testamur, a Curriculum Vitae, and a Personal Statement or Letter of Motivation.
The one-year degree includes five core subjects: Tropical Medicine; Tropical Public Health; Public Health Management, Leadership, Planning and Policy; Epidemiology for Public Health; and Communicable Disease Control. You can also choose three elective subjects covering topics such as infection prevention and control, health promotion, human parasitology, social science in public health, travel medicine, environmental health, biostatistics, and health economics.
The estimated annual tuition fee for a full-time study load is $AUD33,070 (fees are for 2026 and subject to change in following years). A Student Services and Amenities fee is also required. Fee deferral and scholarships are available if eligible.
The course commences in January and September. It is available online or on-campus at Townsville, and can be studied full-time (1 year) or part-time (2 years).
Graduates can find employment in State and Commonwealth Government organisations, health care settings, community settings, non-profit and international organisations, working in roles related to disease control and protection of the health of the population living in tropical areas, and promotion of health and wellbeing. Graduates may also continue on to study the Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
