You can choose to specialise in one of seven areas: Digital Learning Futures, Inclusive Education, Indigenous Knowledges Education, International Education, Managing and Leading Education, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), or University Teaching and Learning. You may also choose units from across multiple specialisations.
No. Completion of the Graduate Diploma of Specialist Education does not lead to teacher registration. The course is designed as a professional development qualification for teachers, practitioners, policymakers and principals already working in the field.
The course requires 80 credit points in total: 2 core units (20 credit points) comprising Contemporary Issues in Education (EMG501) and Research Methodologies in Education (EMG505); 4 specialist elective units (40 credit points) from a chosen specialisation; and 2 general elective units (20 credit points) selected from postgraduate units offered by the University.
The annual tuition fee for full-time study in 2026 is AUD $32,760.00, which equates to $4,095.00 per 10 credit point unit (0.125 EFTSL). These fees are subject to annual increases effective at the start of each calendar year. CDU also offers a number of scholarships to international students to assist with the cost of study.
Yes, the Graduate Diploma of Specialist Education can be completed fully online or on campus, and is available full-time or part-time, providing flexibility to suit work and personal commitments. Offers for this course can also be deferred. Note that on-campus study is available at the Danala - Education and Community Precinct, while the online option is available for domestic students with intakes in both Semester 1 and Semester 2.
