TAFE Queensland offers two levels of IELTS preparation courses: IELTS 1 and IELTS 2. The approximate exit level equivalency for this course is IELTS 5.5 for level one and IELTS 6.0 for level two. Successful completion of IELTS 1 or IELTS 2 will help prepare you for an official IELTS examination or IELTS One Skill Test.
The course fee is $360 per week for international students. A one-off application fee of $150 also applies. Material fees are charged in advance at the rate of one fee per 12 weeks of classes: $150 for 1–12 weeks, $300 for 13–24 weeks, $450 for 25–36 weeks, $600 for 37–48 weeks, and $750 for 49–60 weeks.
The IELTS Preparation course starts anytime — courses commence shortly after enrolment or on the next available intake, with a minimum duration of 2 weeks. Students can start any Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a public holiday). The course is available at South Bank, Brisbane and Southport, Gold Coast.
For IELTS 1, you need successful completion of General English (Upper Intermediate Level), Academic IELTS 5.0, or satisfactory results in a TAFE Queensland ELICOS Placement Test. For IELTS 2, you need successful completion of 12 weeks IELTS Preparation (IELTS 1), 6 to 12 weeks Cambridge Preparation FCE, 12 weeks of English for Academic Purposes (EAP), or satisfactory results in a TAFE Queensland ELICOS Placement Test. You will also be required to undergo an initial pre-training assessment on the first day of class to determine which course level you are best suited to.
The preferred payment method for international students is telegraphic transfer or credit card using Convera Global Pay for Students or the Flywire Payment Portal. Both Convera and Flywire allow you to complete your payment in your own currency using a telegraphic transfer with no processing fees or delays. A payment plan may also be available if you have difficulty paying for the full cost of a course upfront.
