Integrated English

Integrated English (IE) is UQ College's flexible English language program, designed to build proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing for study, travel or as a pathway into further academic study. The program runs in five-week sessions with nine intakes per year, and students can enrol for anywhere from 5 to 45 weeks depending on their starting level and goals. From Level 3 onwards, students choose a stream — Academic, General or Business — to align their studies with their intended pathway, and take one elective class per week from options such as IELTS Preparation, Business English, Oral Communication Skills or Teacher Training (subject to student numbers). Classes run 20 contact hours per week over four days of core Integrated Skills classes plus one elective day, with up to 18 students per class and lessons scheduled between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday. Formal assessment of speaking, writing, reading and listening is held at the end of every five-week session, with results determining progression to the next IE level or entry into UQ College's Foundation Program. IE can also be packaged with the Foundation Program or a UQ degree for students who do not yet meet the English entry requirement for their chosen program, and non-package students must be at least 18 years old at commencement.
