Master of Aboriginal Studies

The Master of Aboriginal Studies privileges First Nations knowledges, pedagogies and voices, and is designed for postgraduate students from any discipline with an interest in Aboriginal history, cultures, politics and education.
Through a mix of theoretical and practical learning you explore Aboriginal issues and worldviews in relation to health, law, history, education, the environment, policy and research, and study Aboriginal cultures, society and history from law, health and education through to Aboriginal Nation building and governance.
The degree develops advanced research, communication and critical thinking skills, and asks you to analyse concepts of representation, power and privilege, understand historical and contemporary issues and debates, and confront and tackle inequity. Aboriginal research methodologies and languages are studied directly.
Teaching is by respected Aboriginal professionals, academics and lecturers, and you connect with First Nations scholars, community leaders and advocates.
You undertake a significant research project or minor thesis in an area of interest — the university gives examples ranging from Indigenous agricultural practices to First Nations poetry — exploring relevant global, cultural and social dimensions.
The program totals 96 units — 90 units of core courses and 6 units of electives — over two years at the Adelaide City Campus, with February and July intakes.
