The extension program adds four courses to the Master of Actuarial Studies. This allows you to complete the professionally accredited courses to become an actuary, as well as to broaden your knowledge through electives in actuarial studies, risk management, business, or options in mathematics and in computer science.
Yes, the program is accredited by the Actuaries Institute. It has also earned the University-Earned Credit (UEC) program status for the Financial Mathematics (FM) exam and Statistics for Risk Modelling (SRM) exam, facilitating a pathway for students who pursue the Society of Actuaries (SOA) profession. Professional accreditation through the Actuaries Institute also provides mutual recognition at major international actuarial bodies such as the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK and the Society of Actuaries in the US.
The Master of Actuarial Studies (Extension) is a two-year program consisting of 16 courses totalling 96 Units of Credit (UOC). The program includes six core courses, nine electives to match your career goals, and one capstone project. In the core courses you will study probability, statistics, financial mathematics, data visualisation and communication, statistical machine learning, finance, financial reporting and business economics. There are more than 25 elective courses to choose from that span mathematics, computer science, marketing, information technology, finance, and economics.
For domestic students, the 2026 indicative first year full fee is $42,000, with an indicative full fee to complete the degree of $86,000. For international students, the 2026 indicative first year fee is $62,000, with an indicative full fee to complete the degree of $129,000. Fees are subject to annual review and may vary accordingly.
The program commences in Term 1, Term 2, and Term 3, offering multiple intake opportunities throughout the year. UNSW encourages applicants to submit their completed application as early as possible to ensure it is processed in time for their preferred term.
